LONG WINTER ANNOUNCES 10th ANNIVERSARY KICK-OFF: ‘TOGETHER APART’ INTERNATIONAL DIY FESTIVAL AND CONFERENCE, FEATURING FIVER, CLUB QUARANTINE AND MORE

This fall, Long Winter is pleased to present a special 10th anniversary extension to its winter series.  Together Apart activities run September - November 2021, with the aim of connecting DIY music and arts communities across Ontario, Europe, and beyond.

Festivities will include an outdoor concert series across the street from the Garrison (Dundas and Lakeview) featuring FIVER, monthly editions of a cross-city zine,  installations by partner curators Bunker 2 and Younger than Beyoncé,  features by Unit 2,  Sou Sou, Strangewaves and more, IRL / cross-stream live performances from Toronto (St. Anne’s Anglican Church) and La Station in Paris, France, with a multi-channel video program co-produced with Collectif Ascidiacea and Club Quarantine, articles and playlists on Long Winter’s blog, through StationStation radio, and more.

Long Winter’s Together Apart showcases local underground and DIY music scenes in Ontario and France. The Toronto-Paris partnership includes a conference and workshop stream with  resources and information-sharing between local collectives. Focused on issues of space access, it bridges needs and interests of DIY and underground communities internationally, providing exchange between scenes, and cross-sector dialogue between local arts communities and researchers, urban planners and policy makers.

Virtual stream; venue accessibility: The majority of programming (concerts and conference panels) will be available for international access online, through Long Winter TV and the Together Apart conference platform.

The parking lot across the street from the Garrison and Lula Lounge are accessible venues. We regret that St. Anne’s is not a barrier-free location, but attendees will have ongoing access to fully accessible bathrooms in the church. There are several steps from the street to the front door and interior steps leading to the Main Hall, upstairs, and downstairs. There is ample seating available, and washrooms between Skey Room and the Chapel (main floor) and outside Roseneath (upstairs) are gender neutral. St. Anne’s is a fragrance-free space (please don't wear perfumes or scented products).

Long Winter is an anti-oppressive organization committed to fostering safer spaces and a culture around consent. Any conduct that is known, or ought to be known, to cause offence or humiliation, and may include persistent unwanted attention and deliberate infringement of personal space, hate speech, violence, predatory and otherwise oppressive behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated. Organizers will be roaming the event throughout the night, and naloxone kits will be on site. Organizers will be wearing glow sticks. Feel free to contact us, bar staff, or security if you feel something’s off.  The health and safety of our artists and communities is paramount. All events will be presented hybrid — filmed and edited for livestream and/or broadcast.  If someone says or does something in the chat to make you feel uncomfortable, no matter how minor it seems, please reach out to us right away in person or at torontolongwinter@gmail.com. Entry to the event is up to the discretion of the staff to ensure these conditions are met and a positive vibe is maintained.

COVID brief for September events: Conditions for live performances are subject to change based on COVID conditions and health and safety recommendations. In order to reduce as much potential for harm as possible, we will be operating at a reduced venue capacity and asking that attendees provide provincially sanctioned proof of completed vaccination (paper or electronic) against COVID-19. This is an outdoor event, but we are also asking that attendees wear masks covering their mouths and noses in designated spaces. All performers, organizers, and volunteers will be held to the same standards.

Updates will be shared on socials and our website, www.torontolongwinter.com.
